Miss Grant Takes Richmond is a 1949 American comedy film directed by Lloyd Bacon and starring Jeanne Crain, Robert Cummings, and William Bendix. The film is based on the 1946 novel of the same name by Margaret Mitchell. The film tells the story of a young woman named Susan Grant (Crain) who travels to Richmond, Virginia, to visit her father, who is a Confederate general. While there, she meets a Union soldier named John Wilkes Booth (Cummings), and the two fall in love. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Booth is a spy for the Union Army. Miss Grant Takes Richmond was a critical and commercial success. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
