Mystery Street is a 1950 American film noir crime film directed by John Sturges and starring Ricardo Montalban, Sally Forrest, and Bruce Bennett. The film is about a police detective who is investigating a murder and becomes involved with the victim's wife. The film opens with a man being chased by a police car. The man runs into a house and hides in a closet. The police break down the door and find the man dead. The police detective, Lt. Jim Howley (Montalban), is called to the scene. He finds a note in the man's pocket that says "Mystery Street." Howley begins to investigate the murder. He learns that the man's name is Frank Wilson and that he was a private investigator. Howley also learns that Wilson was investigating a drug ring. Howley tracks down Wilson's girlfriend, Peggy (Forrest). Peggy tells Howley that Wilson was working on a case for a man named George Peters. Peters is a wealthy businessman who is suspected of being involved in the drug ring. Howley goes to see Peters. Peters denies being involved in the drug ring and tells Howley that he had nothing to do with Wilson's murder. Howley continues to investigate the case. He learns that Wilson was also investigating a woman named Mary Gibson. Gibson is a prostitute who is also suspected of being involved in the drug ring. Howley tracks down Gibson. Gibson tells Howley that she was working for Peters and that she was involved in the drug ring. She also tells Howley that she saw Wilson the night he was killed. Howley puts the pieces together and realizes that Peters is the one who killed Wilson. He goes to Peters' house and arrests him. Mystery Street is a well-made film noir crime film. The film is suspenseful and the acting is excellent. The film is also a good example of the film noir genre.
