La Morte ha Sorriso All'Assassino (The Death Smiled at the Assassin) is a 1967 Italian giallo film directed by Damiano Damiani. The film stars Jean Sorel, Carroll Baker, and Luigi Pistilli. The film tells the story of a young woman named Laura (Baker) who is brutally murdered in her apartment. The police are baffled by the crime, and the only clue they have is a single playing card left at the scene. As the investigation progresses, it becomes clear that Laura was not the only victim. A series of similar murders have been committed in the past, and the killer seems to be targeting young women who are all connected to the same man: a wealthy industrialist named Gianni (Sorel). As the police close in on Gianni, he becomes increasingly paranoid and desperate. He knows that he is the only one who can stop the killer, but he is also the only one who knows who the killer is. The film builds to a climax as Gianni confronts the killer in a final showdown. The killer is revealed to be a woman named Anna (Pistilli), who is Gianni's former lover. Anna is a psychopath who is obsessed with Gianni, and she believes that he is the only man who can satisfy her. In the end, Gianni is able to defeat Anna and bring her to justice. However, the film ends on a dark note, as Gianni realizes that he will never be able to escape from Anna's shadow.
