Escape from Zahrain is a 1962 American adventure film directed by Ronald Neame and starring David Niven, Anthony Quinn, and George Kennedy. The film is based on the 1960 novel of the same name by Alistair MacLean. The film tells the story of a group of British oil workers who are kidnapped by Arab rebels in the fictional country of Zahrain. The rebels demand a ransom of $10 million, but the British government refuses to pay. The workers are then taken to a remote desert oasis, where they are held hostage. A British commando team is sent to rescue the workers, but they are ambushed by the rebels. The commandos are killed, and the workers are taken to a new location. A second rescue attempt is made by a group of American mercenaries, led by David Niven. The mercenaries succeed in rescuing the workers, but they are pursued by the rebels. The mercenaries eventually escape to safety, and the workers are returned to their families. Escape from Zahrain was a critical and commercial success. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.
